Zambrero, the international Mexican restaurant group founded by Scottish born Australian medical doctor, Sam Prince, has received investment from Metric Capital Partners, a leading pan-European private capital manager. The transaction represents the first ever external capital taken by Zambrero.

Founded in 2005 by Dr Prince, Zambrero has more than 245 quick-service restaurants across the globe and is now the largest Mexican restaurant group in Australia and the eighth largest in the world. Zambrero has opened five restaurants to date in the UK off the back of a successful rollout in Ireland.

Commenting on the announcement, Dr Sam Prince, said: “We are excited to hit another growth milestone with the opening of our 20th restaurant across the UK and Ireland in the coming weeks. Whilst it is a challenging time economically across the world, we are a resilient business and look forward to further expansion.”

Not only does Zambrero serve up a delicious mix of burritos, bowls, nachos and tacos, but Zambrero has also donated more than 65 million meals to those in need through its Plate 4 Plate Initiative. An initiative created by Dr Prince in 2008, for every burrito or bowl sold at Zambrero around the world, a meal is donated to someone in need through its Plate 4 Plate initiative.

Bjorn Tessiore, Partner at Metric Capital commented: “The investment in Zambrero represents our third investment in the restaurant sector and we are thrilled to be partnering with Sam, his team and the wider Zambrero network. We are extremely impressed with the quality of the business and its people and we are delighted to be involved in its future growth”.

Dr Prince concluded: “We’re delighted to have Metric Capital on board as a European partner and our first ever external capital. This is a wonderful milestone for Zambrero and it’s most pleasing to me to know that as we embark on our next stage of growth, each person that has contributed to the growth and development of Zambrero, is still a part of Zambrero today.”

Metric was advised by White & Case, OC&C Strategy Consultants and Grant Thornton.

Zambrero was advised by Corrs Chambers Westgarth, EY, Gresham and Baird.
